FIRE
AT THE BODY SHOP
Here are a
few pictures of what Mopar parts look like when they are heated
up a thousand degrees or so. I lost several things in a body shop
fire this May 1999. Included was my steering column, center console,
steering wheel, dashboard, glove box, ashtray and other small
miscellaneous items. The sort of funny thing is my fiancee' works
across the street and when we made plans to go out that evening
she said that there was a huge fire near her office. Of course
she neglected to tell me that it was his shop (how I especially
love her at times). A week later when I called my body guy, to
check on the status of things, I found out. Arrrgghh!
Homeless people started the
fire. They were living behind the shop and the train tracks that
are about 50 feet further away.
You can bet I won't be giving
any money to "Save the Homeless" this year!
All replacement parts were found within 30 days of this disaster
and I'd like to thank those on Tom's Moparts webboard who sold
me parts and
Dr.
Mopar, a salvage yard close to me, for giving
me a super cheap price break on a replacement dash $50.00!
One must look at the bright side, at least my car wasn't inside
unlike this crispy uninsured Jeep and nobody was injured.
The thing that gets me is I
just had this dash sandblasted before I dropped it off to the
paint guy. Boy that Mopar VIN tag sure can take a beating! Except
for the lack of black paint it is in perfect condition. I guess
my car is no longer NOS...LIKE I CARE!
